I want to put you all out of your misery right now and tell you the real truth about social media marketing. What is it, you ask? Putting people in touch with other people. It is that simple its main substance is to put and keep people in touch with each other and to do that in the most fun and efficient way.

So, there you have it. There is no mystical power behind this “new” method of marketing it really that simple. Social media simply presents new ways to do an old thing, which is to talk to people.

Oscar Wilde said it best when said “The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about”. Nowhere is this more evident than with brands in social media.

What about strategy you retort? Of course strategy is important, strategy is how you “organize” a conversation. Smart social media strategy includes knowing who your audience is and where they spend their time, having an understanding of the importance and influence of content on a conversation and knowing how to associate a brand with topics and subjects that matter to its customers. This all forms part of a broader social media strategy.

I agree Troy, people just think it is so complicated or else they think it is useless from a business perspective.

I think all the Social Media options can be effectively utilized with a little patience and knowledge. It’s like anything else, you need to watch the experts who are successful and follow their lead.
